Translation of Kaifi Azmi

Kaifi Azmi had famously said, “I was born in colonial India, am living in independent India, but wish to die in the socialist India”. Many obstacles have thus far prevented his dream from being fulfilled. One of the deepest resulted from division of the Communist Party of India during his lifetime. This poem, brilliantly translated by Sri Subhas Chandra Pattanayak brings to light the profound anguish of the progressive poet.
